Chapter 713

Maggie was taken aback. She hadn't expected Hayes to say something like that. Her heart was practically

melting.

Glancing down at the little guy, she noticed he was looking up at her with hopeful, cautious eyes, mirroring her

own gaze. It made Maggie's heart ache.

Yuna had always played favorites, a fact Maggie was well aware of. And maybe it was Yuna's partiality that had

left Hayes craving the affection he never felt from her, seeking scraps of love from Maggie. This wasn't how a

child was supposed to feel.

Even though Teresa was mature for her age, she still possessed the innocence of childhood. But Hayes... he

seemed to have only politeness and understanding to offer.

Maggie's maternal instincts were bubbling up. She hugged Hayes tightly, playfully flicking his nose, and said with

a laugh:

"If Hayes were really my boy, that would be the universe's gift to me. | mean, where else could you find such a

sweet and well-behaved little dude? How lucky am I?"

Hayes grinned, showing off a row of pearly white teeth. "Ms. Maggie... do you really like me?"

"Of course!" Maggie didn't hesitate.

The little guy, thrilled, snuggled closer into Maggie's embrace. "Then, could you... think of me, as your son..."

"Honey, I'd love to think of you as my own, but your daddy wouldn't have it."

Hayes and Teresa exchanged glances, pausing before simultaneously declaring, "Forget him!"

Maggie couldn't help but laugh at their cheeky antics. Perhaps it was the healing power of their company, but

she quickly fell asleep cuddled up with Teresa and Hayes.

The next morning, she was awoken by the vibration of her phone. The caller ID showed Abbey.

She quickly grabbed her phone and stepped out onto the balcony to answer, keeping her voice low. "Ms. Abbey,

what's up?"

Abbey sounded out of breath on the other end. "Maggie, | just left the hospital."

Maggie's heart skipped a beat, her entire body tensing up: "You went to check the hospital cameras?"

"Yeah. Maggie, find somewhere private, brace yourself. I'm about to tell you something."

Brace herself? Why? Could it be that Abbey had actually discovered something?

Maggie's mind was buzzing, her speech almost incoherent with excitement. "Ms. Abbey, go ahead, I'm... I'm

alone."

After catching her breath, Abbey finally said: "I've been doing sdigging, and it turns out Yuna was staying in

the hospital's luxury suite. The whole floor was hers, so there were no cameras. But | checked the parking

garage footage, and sure enough, Penelope was there the day everything went down. She stayed for about an

hour and left in a hurry, practically running. About a minute later, Yuna also made a run for it. And the cameras

got a clear shot of Yuna's face — it was twisted in rage. And she left in the sdirection as Penelope."
