Chapter 27

Grace stayed indoors for three days.

During those three days, she did nothing but paint.

Pain, sorrow, anger-too many bad emotions poured out of Grace onto the blank canvases.

“Camille, are you doing okay in Becrenga? | dried soranges and grapefruits for you and packed them up.

Andy will send them over soon. | heard Osmal City was really dry, so remember to drink tea often to soothe your

throat. I'm praying for you here in Clastein.”

In the darkness, only the faint glow of her phone screen lit up

the room.

It was a voice message from her landlady, Mary Clayton. Grace curled up on the floor, listening to it over and

over.

“Mom,” Grace murmured unconsciously.

Truthfully, all her understanding of the word “mother” cfrom this middle-aged woman far away in Clastein.

She missed the chamomile-scented warmth of Mary’s hands, the mouth-puckeringly sour codfish with tomato

sauce, the sun-dried but still colorful fruits...

The doorbell rang.

Grace got up, wrapped in a thick blanket, and went to open the door.

Standing there were a lawyer she'd never met before and the familiar Simon.

“Are you two together?” Grace frowned.

Simon, carrying a briefcase, shook his head. “No. This is Mrs. Parrish’s lawyer. I'm here on Mr. Kaufman's orders.”

It seemed they wouldn't give up until this was resolved.

This time, Grace didn’t shut the door on them.

She casually tossed two bottles of expensive water to the two

men.

“Whatever it is, make it quick.” Grace sat cross-legged on the sofa, her expression cold.

“This is the deed of gift for 45.7% of the Parrish Group's shares, originally belonging to Mrs. Parrish and Ms.

Naomi Parrish. There's also a cashier's check, as well as the transfer documents and property deeds for three

luxury villas.”

The lawyer began methodically pulling out a thick stack of documents and continued, “Mrs. Parrish and Ms.

Naomi askedto convey that they knew these things meant little to you, but this was their way of making

amends. Whether you accept them or not, they're already yours.”

Grace was surprised, thinking, “Not only Mrs. Parrish but even Naomi gave up her shares?”

Clearing his throat, Simon also pulled out a thick stack of documents.

“Ms. Parrish, these are all the assets of the Kaufman Group...”

Before Simon could finish, Grace interrupted with a frown. “What do you mean? Is Mr. Kaufman also stepping

down?”

“Well...” Simon hesitated, unsure how to respond.

Just then, Antonio’s weak voice cfrom the doorway.

“I just want to apologize. | know ... only by suffering as you once did can I truly make amends.”

Simon and the Parrish family’s lawyer tactfully left.

Antonio, clutching his chest in pain, slowly approached.

“I've handed over all my assets to you. Right now, I'm penniless. Between us, I'm no longer the one in power, no

longer looking down on you. Grace, | just want to give you the right and the means to hurt me.”

Grace stared unblinkingly at the pale, uninvited man.

Suddenly, she smiled faintly, “Antonio, do you think hurting you will erase those seven years or all the terrible

things you did to me? Are you really that naive?”

As she spoke, she felt a mix of relief and heartache.

Wasn't this just another way of reopening old wounds?

But before Grace could say more, there was a loud sound.

Grace looked over, confused.

Antohad dropped to his knees in front of her.
