Chapter 209
Before the server could finish speaking, Angela hastily waved her hands. "Take it away! Take it away!"
She didn't dare look at the tray, convinced it was the screature she had encountered earlier.
It was too terrifying. This was the classic case of once bitten, twice shy.
"What's up with you? You cback from the hike acting all jumpy. Should | find someone to perform an
exorcism on you?" Fiona joked.
Angela was still panicking and breathing heavily, and her face was as pale as a sheet.
"Drink swater to calm your nerves," Dexter said, handing her a cup of warm water.
Angela didn't think twice before grabbing the cup and gulping it down. Only after she was done did she finally
feel her racing heart slow down.
This was too much for her. She didn't have much of an appetite for the rest of the meal.
Back home, Angela collapsed onto her bed, feeling like she had been through a day of pure torment.
That night, she lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
Dexter couldn't sleep either. He got up and went to the second-floor terrace to cool off.
Fiona brought him a jacket and joined him.
"What are you doing, sitting here in silence? Who upset you this time?" Fiona asked, sitting beside him with a

Dexter stayed silent, looking like he was lost in thought.
"If you still like her, just say so. Stop being so awkward about it." As if she could
see right through him, Fiona spoke candidly.
Dexter frowned, turning to look at her. "Is it that obvious?"
He was a little surprised by his own response. He hadn't expected his first
reaction would be to ask that question rather than deny it by saying he didn't like her.
Fiona was taken aback. "So you really like her? You didn't deny it."
Dexter stayed silent, looking confused.
"Of course you do. At first, when | didn't know Angela well, | thought she wasn't good enough for you in some
ways. But later, | realized that relationships aren't about social status. They're about character. What's the point
of being perfectly matched on paper? She's a good person."
With a faint smile, Fiona watched the clouds float by, her expression tinged with wistfulness.
"So what? She doesn't like me," Dexter replied bitterly, letting out a mirthless laugh.
He took a sip of cold water, feeling his entire being grow colder.
"Don't lose hope just yet. Angela toldtoday that she and Finn are just friends. In other words, while she
might not like you, she doesn't like anyone else either. That's a small blessing in disguise." Fiona patted her son
on the shoulder
encouragingly.
Dexter raised an eyebrow. "I figured as much."
"Don't just ‘figure as much’. That won't help." Fiona looked disappointed. "You need to break the ice. She resents
you, and you need to resolve that."
Dexter didn't say anything—he knew that too.
The problem was that she was so repulsed by him now that even one word from him annoyed her. What could he
possibly do?
"I never realized how stubborn she could be. Once she makes up her mind about something, she doesn't change
it," Fiona remarked, her tone tinged with frustration.
Dexter sighed silently.
"You have too much pride. Either you don't want to lower yourself in front of her, or you don't think she's worth
swallowing your pride for," Fiona continued.
Dexter froze at that. Was that the case?
"Back then, she was the one always compromising, always humbling herself to please you, doing everything just
to get a smile out of you. Naturally, you didn't think you needed to give much in return. But now things are
different, Dexter.

that's fine. But if you can't let her go, then you need to be the one to put in the seffort she once did."

With that, Fiona turned and left.
Dexter's stern face turned dark. He stared blankly into space, memories of
Angela's former self crossing his mind.
Fiona was right.
Back then, Angela humbled herself and tolerated everything, all for the sake of seeing him smile.
