Chapter 389 Deanna's pupils constricted sharply. She couldn't even get a full sentence out.

Isadora slipped her hand around Victor's arm, leaning so close it was as if she was clinging to him for dear life. But deep in her eyes, cold and bright as winter stars, flashed a trace of hatred she could no longer hide. Watching Deanna's panic and shock, Isadora's lips curled slowly into a faint, satisfied smile.

Victor glanced down, his eyes dark and unreadable as he watched Isadora's gesture. He slid his arm around her slender waist, pulling her halfway into his embrace.

"Isadora's expecting," he announced calmly. "Once my father's hundred-day memorial has passed next month, we'll be getting married." The household staff, hearing this, lowered their heads so far they nearly buried their faces in their chests. No one dared even to breathe.

"What did you just say?!" There was a heavy thud.

Deanna's whole body seemed to unravel, her strength gone. She collapsed shakily onto the nearest chair.

She shouted, her voice sharp with fury, "Victor! Do you even seeas your mother anymore?" Victor's gaze turned icy, his face hard, the corners of his mouth twisting with cold indifference.

"You're the reason I let so many things happen behind my back. That was my mistake." "Why did you threaten Isadora at the press conference?" Deanna's face went ashen, and under Victor's piercing, frosty stare, it felt as if a mountain was pressing down on her chest. She suddenly couldn't breathe and started coughing uncontrollably.

Pattie, standing nearby, cried out, "She can't breathe! Somebody, please get a doctor, now!" Within moments, several family doctors rushed in from the next room.

They hurried to treat Deanna, everyone tense and desperate.

It was a long while before Deanna, half-reclined in her chair, finally managed to catch her breath. Suddenly, Pattie dropped to her knees.

"Sir, this has nothing to do with Mrs. Fitzgerald. It was Rowena who ctowith the plan." "I knew Mrs. Fitzgerald didn't like Isadora, so took matters into my own hands. I kept Isadora's mother and friend's under control so she couldn't say anything about the press conference. Mrs. O Fitzgerald knew nothing about it." Cóntent belongs to swnóvel "Oh, really?" Victor's voice was cold, utterly devoid of warmth.

Pattie trembled, her legs giving out as she knelt and began to bow her head repeatedly to the floor.

"It's true, it was all me! Please, sir, forgive me! Please don't blMrs. Fitzgerald." Victor listened, then a smile flickered across his lips. "Since you admit it, you know how I deal with betrayal, don't you?" He was smiling, but to everyone in the room, his words carried a chilling finality.

Pattie looked up, her face as white as a sheet.

"Mrs. Fitzgerald... goodbye." With that, she shut her eyes, gritted her teeth, and sprang up-charging straight at the marble column. There was a sickening crack.

Blood spattered across the polished stone as Pattie collapsed, unconscious, her head bleeding profusely.

Victor barely glanced at her, not even a flicker of emotion crossing his features. As Pattie struck the pillar, O he simply reached out to shield Isadora's eyes, blocking her view from the ghastly scene. The family doctors stood frozen, not one daring to step forward to help.

Deanna's eyes rolled back, her voice slow and trembling:

"That was Pattie-she's served the Fitzgerald family faithfully for forty years. She took care of you since you were a child. And now, for this woman, you're willing to spil loyal blood." Deanna turned her murderous gaze on Isadora.

If looks could kill, Isadora would have been left in pieces by that glare alone.

Teeth clenched, Deanna spat out, "If you want this woman to move into this house you'll have to go throughfirst."
