But in the end, it was all worth it. She finally managed to carve out a tunnel big enough for her to cravi through.

She gasped sharply from the pain.
Wincing, she struggled to free her leg out from under the heavy branch and continued to throw dirt onto the

She had no idea how long she had been working, but after tossing the nth handful of soil onto the smoldering
flames, the fire finally went out, leaving only white smoke in its wake.
Exhausted, Corynn collapsed to the ground. With the immediate danger over, her adrenaline faded, and now,
she felt pain all over her body.
She coughed and gasped for air, her body trembling uncontrollably, tears streaming down her soot-stained face
She had just narrowly escaped death.
Fighting that fire had taken all of her energy, and now, she wanted nothing more than to curl into a ball and

But she knew that only half the battle was over. Forcing herself to get up, the searched for her phone among the
rubble, only to find that it wouldn't turn on
Her only hope now lay with the police.
Hugging her knees, she leaned against the wall and cried silently, the intense pain all over her body keeping her
from passing out.
She knew she had to stay conscious, because if Coby and his men returned, she was doomed
But what could she do? She had exhausted all her strength, even standing up was a challenge
Corynn buried her face in her knees, waiting helplessly for tto pass.
At long last, she heard the sound of sirens wailing in the distance.
Corynn slowly lifted her head, tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.
To help the police find her, she kept banging the stick on the ground, hoping to make enough noise to attract
attention.
Soon, she heard hurried footsteps heading her way.
When she saw the paramedics and rescue team approaching, she finally felt a wave of relief, and knowing that
she was in good hands, she allowed herself to pass out.
Elliot had been in a meeting when Corynn’s call cthrough. He froze for a moment, but before he could
answer it, the call ended as abruptly as it came.
He tried to call back, but the call refused to go through. “Oh, right,” he thought. “She blocked me.*
At first, Elliot thought that Corynn had dialed him by mistake. But the more he mulled over it, the more
inexplicably uneasy he felt.

Why would Corynn try to call him, especially when she had already blocked his number?
Perhaps Corynn had accidentally butt-dialed him or something.
But then he wondered under what circumstances something like that would happen, and he had a nagging sense
that something was terribly wrong.
Considering the possibility of an emergency, he couldn't sit still. Finally, he abruptly ended the meeting and
instructed Kaden to track down Corynn’s whereabouts.
Coincidentally, there had recently been a traffic accident near the airport, which made Elliot wonder if that had
anything to do with Corynn.
When he arrived at the scene, he saw a search team entering the mountains and the mangled up car, which
filled him with unending dread.
