Chapter 62 A Single, Two- letter Word

“Hey, you always do this!” Shirley scolded Corynn lightheartedly, feigning anger. “You always play deaf when we

talk about this.”

As expected, Corynn grabbed her blanket and pulled it over her face, pretending not to hear her mother’s

complaints.

Shirley promptly yanked the blanket away and said with a pout, “I'm serious! Jason’s a good man. You can’t

make him wait too long!”

Hoping that agreeing perfunctorily would get her mother off her back, Corryn begrudgingly nodded in response.

“Just... think about it carefully,” Shirley said with a resigned sigh. “I'll cback this afternoon to check on you.

With an army of bodyguards standing outside, Shirley felt at ease leaving her daughter alone at the hospital.

Corynn lay there, eyes closed, contemplating Shirley’s words. Jason had indeed been waiting for her answer for

so long, and he had done a lot for her.

And there was no way she could repay him in this lifetime.

Alas, there was struth to Shirley’s words-Jason didn’t need her to repay the favors; he just wanted her.

But Corynn couldn’t get over the fact that she had no romantic feelings for him, especially since she had recently

gotten entangled with Elliot again.

As these messy thoughts plagued her mind, Corynn let out a heavy sigh.

She walked over to the window, intending to enjoy the view, only to see Elliot standing below.

As if sensing her gaze, Elliot looked up, and their eyes met.

Feeling uneasy, Corynn quickly looked away and hastily returned to her bed. Her already troubled mood became

even more restless.

What on earth was Elliot doing here?

Thinking about how Elliot had previously shown up just in tto save her from certain death, she couldn't help

but wonder if he had been coming here every night.

But why?

Corynn couldn't let herself entertain such foolish thoughts.

So, she turned over in bed and squeezed her eyes shut, hoping to catch up on sleep.

Elliot's heart skipped a beat the moment he saw Corynn, but as soon as she averted her gaze, he felt as though

someone had poured a bucket of cold water over him, instantly dousing his excitement.

Nevertheless, he wanted to see how Corynn was doing

He deliberately waited until he knew that she was alone in her ward before approaching

Perhaps now, they could have a proper talk.

Elliot knocked on the door. “Corynn, may | cin?”

Corynn’s heart leaped to her throat at the sound of his voice.

What the hell was he doing here?!

Was it because they had made eye contact? Damn it!

Corynn didn’t want to see him, but just as she opened her mouth to refuse, the door swung open, and there

stood Elliot.

She couldn't help but notice how gaunt and weary he looked, possibly from lack of rest.

But so what? His business had nothing to do with her.

Corynn turned her head away, refusing to so much as spare him another glance. “What are you doing here? 1

told you | don’t want to see you.”

“I know...” Elliot said softly, sitting down beside her. “Corynn, | want to go back to the way things were before.

Can we be a couple again?” Elliot looked at Corynn with hopeful eyes.

Corynn stiffened, then slowly turned to face him, her gaze icy, a mocking smile playing at her lips. “No.”

There wasn’t the slightest hesitation in her voice.

Elliot's expression darkened, his hopes shattered by a single, two-letter word. He had prepared himself for

rejection, but it still hurt like hell. However, he wasn’t going to give up on Corynn just yet.

He wanted her, and he was willing to fight for her.

“Elliot, there's no need to pretend to be so sincere in front of me. It only makes you look even more like a

hypocrite!”

Corynn'’s tone was sharp, like a blade stabbing straight into Elliot's heart.
