Chapter 74 It's Too Late

The ring fell to the floor with a gentle clink, rolling over several times and stopping at Elliot's feet.

Elliot remained motionless, staring down at it.

“Why did you give this to me? Is this your way of proposing to me?” Corynn’s voice was steady, despite the

recent memory of the wedding invitation from Amanda.

Elliot looked up, his eyes filled with a tentative hope. “If you leave Jason, we could marry right away.

Corynn stood with her arms crossed. Three years earlier, she would have leapt at such a proposal from Elliot

without a second thought. But three years had changed everything.

Back then, Elliot hadn't truly loved her, and now, he was about to marry Amanda yet seemed unwilling to let

Corynn go. Had she not learned of his engagement, she might have fallen for his declarations of affection.

He was almost married to Amanda. How could he now want to marry her?

“No,” Corynn stated coldly.

Rejecting his advance, she turned and walked away in a steady gait.

Behind her, Elliot felt as if his heart was crumbling, its pieces falling through an abyss.

He stooped down to retrieve the ring, but then, driven by desperation, he reached out and pulled Corynn into a

tight embrace from behind. a

“Corynn, please don’t do this,” he begged, his voice breaking.

Though she could hear the desperation in his plea, Corynn’s face remained impassive as she allowed him to hold

her momentarily.

“Elliot, remember? You were the one who ended things. Have you forgotten?” she reminded him quietly. He

rested his head against her shoulder. “I regret everything | said. | take it all back,” he confessed. Corynn gently

removed his hands from around her. “It’s too late,” she whispered back.

Since Elliot was engaged to another, she was ready to begin anew. Their paths had irrevocably diverged. As

Corynn walked away, she looked back once, her expression resolute, signaling an end.

Elliot reached out, but his hand closed on empty air.

Holding the ring tightly, he remembered something else he had meant to give her. “Corynn!” he called out.

She then turned to face him.

He stepped forward, grabbed her wrist and put a tube of scar ointment into her palm. “I got this abroad. The

doctor said it might help with the scarring on your leg.” His voice trailed off, unable to meet her indifferent

Corynn handed the ointment back to Elliot. “Keep it. Jason is takingbad for them

explained.

As Corynn moved away, Elliot watched her receding figure. He felt that each s the work down for gay between

them, diminishing any hope of reconciliation

Clutching the ring in his hand, he paused beside a trash bin and discarded the ser fintment with a sece of

finality.

It seemed clear that no matter his efforts, winning Corynn back was Beyond reach.

Was he truly supposed to let her go to another?

He couldn't bear the thought of it happening.

The mere idea seemed to drive him to madness.

Why did it have to cto this?

The pressure of the diamond ring against his skin was a stark reminder of his predicament, marlang nm with

red indents.

The echoes of his past negligence and overlooked affection now returned to haunt him. Taree years at pad and

all he was left with was a deep-seated yearning that seemed to elude his grasp

Should he just surrender?

He quickly rejected that notion.

Surrender was not a word found in Elliot's dictionary.

With renewed resolve, he turned around and started back in the direction Corynn had disappeared, wiling

to give up.
