Chapter 211

AUTHOR'S NOTE

63%

I don’t know where to start with this because, honestly, I'm terrified of talking to people, even though I'm just

typing this for you to read. If | could use emojis, | would throw in a laughing one here because, like Chandler, |

use humor to cover up my lack of social skills. Unfortunately, unlike him, I'm not funny, so it just comes off as

awkward. But anyway... back to the point.

| wanted to write this to say thank you to everyone who has read, is reading, and will continue to read my book. |

cannot begin to tell you how much | appreciate it. | know it’s not easy to start a book especially a long one and

stick with it. That's why | try my hardest and put a lot of effort into it. But I'm not perfect, and | make mistakes.

Because of that, I'm often scared to check the comments. Not only do | struggle with talking to people, but | also

tend to cry a lotso please take it easy on(another laughing emoji here).

I'm still learning. There is so much | don’t know, even though I try to read as much as | can to make my story as

realistic as possible but again, I'm not perfect. | do want you to know that every correction or piece of feedback |

receive, | take it with gratitude (after crying first, of course), and | truly try to learn from it.

When | started writing this book, all | knew was that | wanted to create a story that | would want to read. | didn’t

know if it would be long or short. | just wanted it to be good. Sdays are easier than others, but | never want

to lose sight of that goal. And | know... Ava and Grayson’s can be exhausting. | created them, so to me,

they feel more real than you can imagine. Sometimes, | just want to yell at them both to stop before my head

explodes.

But to everyone reading this, | want you to know that everything | write no matter how difficult sdays are-

has a purpose. | never add things just because | want ti keep writing; | want every detail to matter. Writing a

story is one thing, but making it interesting enough for someone to invest their tin is another. That's why,

with every chapter, | check in with myself to make sure I'm still working hard to write a book that’s worth the

precious tyou are spending on it and | love these characters so much and wouldn't want their story line to be

ruined just because | want to fill spaces and if | could write a character into my reality? | would steal Grayson

from Ava and marry him myself-but that’s beside the point.

So once again, thank you. Whether you hsve read every chapter, stopped halfway, or simply glanced at it, |

appreciate you more than | can say. | don’t know how many people will read this, but if you do, just know I'm

sending you a really big and personal thank you.

| could write a good book, but it would mean nothing without all of you reading it and for that | am truly, truly

grateful.

-Ava’s POV-

“Is it justor is your mother, like, kind of hot?”

| clicked my teeth, swatting at Isabella’s head, but she dodged the motion with a laugh, “Stop being so grumpy. |

mean, I'm not the only one noticing it. Look at how everyone's staring.”

| turned my glare on her, narrowing my eye, “Don’t makekick you off,

this... this was different. Her age had only added to She wasn’t wrong, though. My mother had always carried a

presence, bu the allure, like she’d beceven more untouchable with time. Evelyn Pierce wasn’t a woman to

be overlooked, and her elegance had always managed to make everyone-myself included-feel like mere ants in

her path. Even the simple act of walking to the gate had an air of superiority to it, as if the rest of the world

existed just to move aside for her.

| glanced around, following my mother’s steps as she moved ahead of us in line. And of course, people were

staring. It was subtle, but | could feel it-the way they ogled her as she walked, too proud to even try hiding it. |

could sense their admiration, their fascination with her aura.

But | didn’t want to admit it. | didn’t like her, didn’t even want to acknowledge that she had this effect on people.

No, | was still too angry at her for everything. For the years of manipulation, for the coldness, for the countless

times | had stood in the background while she wore her perfect mask to the world, hiding everything that was

really going on.

And yet, there she was, walking with the scommanding presence she had always carried. The slook in

her eyes as she sliced through the crowd, cutting through lines and giving off that feeling that she was above all

of them.

Good for her, 1 guess.

| couldn't deny it, though. Despite everything, there was something magnetic about the way she carried herself,

about how she effortlessly made every room she entered feel like it was her own.

And for a second, | felt a reluctant pull of awe for her.

Isabella nudged me, her voice teasing. “Wow, Evelyn Pierce really knows how to work a crowd.”

I ignored her, focusing on the way Evelyn had sliced through the line without hesitation. She didn’t even look at

anyone as she walked straight to the front, her boots stomping softly on the floor. As if everyone else didn’t

exist.

| noticed the woman in front of the counter glance at her, probably deciding whether she should say something.

But Evelyn didn’t give her the chance. She didn’t even break her stride, just raised an eyebrow at the woman,

her eyes narrowing ever so slightly.

The woman immediately stepped aside, no words needed. There was no argument, no hesitation.

Evelyn Pierce had already won that round.

As we approached the counter, | couldn't help but feel a flicker of irritation. She always had to take control of

everything. Never letting anyone else have a moment to breathe, always putting herself at the center of it all.

The woman behind the counter, still looking a bit flustered, cleared her throat before speaking. “Ma’am, if you'd

just...”

My mother didn’t let her finish. She handed over the passports without waiting for any acknowledgment.

“We don’t have tto waste,” She said, her tone

as cold and commanding as ever.

| tuned them out, not really caring about the rest of the exchange. | wasn’t even listening anymore, my mind

somewhere else. My eyes drifted to the terminal around us-people rushing past, the hustle and bustle of travel,

the hum of life moving at full speed. Everyone aroundwas so focused on their own worlds, and | was too

tired to care about anything other than getting out of here.

Despite everything, my thoughts kept circling back to how she had arranged everything for us. The weapons.

The illegal shipment of them.

| would have never expected Evelyn Pierce to have underworld connections and even more surprising? She had a

friend.

Before | could dive deeper into my thoughts, | heard the woman at the counter speak again, her voice trembling

slightly. “There are no first-class seat available...”

| didn’t pay much attention until | heard my mother snap in a voice sharp enough to cut glass. “Did you just

suggest | fly coach?”

There was a long pause.

The woman froze, her eyes wide. Then, in a split second, she choked back a sob, the tears welling up in her eyes.

Chapter 211

My heart lurched as | stood up straight, pushing forward. “What's happening?”

My mother’s cold stare never wavered, her gaze still fixed on the woman behind the counter. But | wasn’t sure

what was more unsettling-the fact that the employee was on the verge of tears or the way my mother stood

there, impervious to everything happening around her.

The woman was shaking, trying desperately to hold herself together as she fumbled with the system. “I-I'm so

sorry, ma’am,” She stammered. “I didn’t mean to offend you. It's just that—"

Before she could finish, | yanked my mother backward by the arm.

| stepped forward, standing between them. “I'm really sorry,” | said to the employee, offering a genuine apology.

“We'll take whatever flights are available.”

The woman looked up at me, her eyes wide with confusion, but at least she stopped crying.

| took a deep breath, trying to diffuse the tension in the air. “It’s alright,” | added, giving the woman a reassuring

smile. “We just need to get to Italy. As soon as possible. Whatever you can offer, we'll take it.”

She nodded, clearly grateful for the interruption, and quickly began typing away at the system, her hands

trembling slightly.

Meanwhile, my mother stood there, silent, her eyes fixed onnow. For a split second, | saw a flicker of

something- something that almost resembled approval-but it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

She didn’t say anything. Instead, she just waited. The woman finally cleared her throat. “There's a flight

departing in two hours,” she said. “I can book you on that one. It's not first class, but it’s still available.”

Without a second thought, | nodded. “Perfect”

And just like that, | was once again taking charge of the situation-much to Evelyn's displeasure, | was sure. But

at this point, I didn’t care.

However, an hour and thirty minutes into the waiting time, | did care-because all | had heard for the past hour

had been the following sentences.

“Sit like a lady.”

Isabella rolled her eyes, her arms crossed as she slouched further into her chair.

“Are you incapable of closing your mouth when you chew your food?”

Isabella, of course, chewed even louder, exaggerated for effect, and then made a point to open her mouth wide.

“You are extremely insolent.”

Isabella snorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “Thanks for the feedback.”

And it just went on like that. Back and forth, an endless string of disapproving comments from my mother, each

one met with sform of rebellion from Isabella. | could feel my patience wearing thin with every word that

was exchanged.

“Will the two of you just stop it?” | snapped, my patience finally snapping under the weight of it all, “You're

givinga headache.”

Isabella and my mother both fell silent for a moment, the air between us thick with tension. My mother gave me

a look of disdain, one that said she was tolerating this, not accepting it while Isabella only grinned further. But at

least they both kept quiet, for now. I could finally breathe.

Chapter 211

Eventually, we were called to board the plane, and | almost sighed in relief. | was so ready to be done with this

ordeal.

Isabella and my mother got seats next to each other, which was fine by me. At least | would be away from them

for a while, enjoying a moment of peace and solitude. | heard my mother growl in irritation as she sat down

beside Isabella, and | heard Isabella’s soft laughter that followed. It only madewalk faster, eager to get to

my seat, to put sdistance between myself and their constant bickering.

But as | made my way down the aisle and reached my seat, | stopped dead in my tracks.

My eyes narrowed instantly as | stared at the person sitting in the seat next to mine, “What the hell do you think

you're doing here?”
