Pete laughed at her reaction, his amusement clear. “So you decided to abandon me, right?”
The words made Charlotte freeze in shock.
She thought, “Have | made skind of promise to him last night while | was drunk?
No way!
I wasn’t drunk!
| remembered everything that had happened last night.”
“Well...” She ran a hand through her hair, trying to mask the confusion in her eyes. “What do you mean?”
Pete simply stared at her, saying nothing.

The longer he stayed silent, the more uneasy Charlotte became. She began to doubt herself, thinking that she
might really have promised him something.

Delighted by how flustered she was, he laughed. Seeing her forehead even dotted with sweat, he chuckled. “If |
were to say that you promised to marry me, would you believe me?”
“That's impossible!”
Charlotte immediately denied it, almost too quickly. “I would never say something like that.”
Pete raised an eyebrow. “So you're so sure that you won’t marryin the future?”
After a brief pause, he added, “Or maybe you're certain you won't get married at all?”
Charlotte waved her hand dismissively. “That's a matter for the future. Right now, I'm not even divorced, so I'm
not thinking about that.”
If she hadn't resolved one issue, there was no way she'd consider another. She didn’t want to waste her energy
on something that might cto nothing.
Pete nodded slowly. “I see.”
He thought, “So, maybe there is still a chance.”

He paused for a moment, then said, “You promised to takeout, remember?”
“Ah, so that’s what you meant!”
Charlotte let out a sigh of relief, rolling her eyes at him. “Next time, don’t make it sound so tic. You're
going to give someone a heart attack, honestly!”
Pete just smiled gently. He enjoyed teasing her. She was so tightly wound up, and he liked seeing her relax a
little.
Charlotte checked her phone for the upcoming work schedule and said, “I'm free in two days. How about | show
you around the city then? Or, | could find you a local guide.”
Pete shook his head. “No guides. | want you to cwith me.”
Charlotte rolled her eyes again and stood up. “No more jokes. | need to make a call to my grandma.”
Pete nodded, watching her walk into the office.

He didn’t linger for long, heading straight for his car. As soon as he got in, his phone rang. He glanced at the
screen before answering, “Go ahead.”
“I've found something, but I'm curious. Why are you so focused on Arthur's wife?” The voice on the other end
mocked.
Pete's expression remained calm, his tone measured. “Just tellwhat you've found. You'll understand why

hanging up.
A moment later, Pete received an email. He opened it and raised an eyebrow at the contents.
He thought, “So, this is the thing holding up their divorce
process.
But does Arthur know about that?
If he does, then he’s been deceiving Charlotte all this time.
Things are getting interesting.”
Pete turned his gaze back toward the studio, where Charlotte was sitting at her desk, holding her phone up for a
video call with Ava. A smile had appeared on her face.
