Chapter 403 She’s Really Unhappy

The Rose Villa had new roses planted, but they were all inside the greenhouse. The weather had turned too cold

for them to bloom outside.

Charlotte felt just like those roses-trapped under glass. She could only look up at a tiny patch of sky. No matter

how vibrant. she seemed, she was slowly wilting. It had been a week since Arthur locked her inside Rose Villa.

There was no way out. He chevery day, and no matter what she was doing, he dragged her straight to

bed. He was relentless and unstoppable.

Charlotte tried to stay awake, waiting for him to fall asleep so she could grab his phone and reach out for help.

But every single tshe so much as shifted, he woke up immediately.

He knew what she was trying to do-and he made her pay for it. He didn’t hold back, leaving her too drained to

even think about trying again. She felt like she was losing her mind.

One evening, as the sun dipped low in the sky, Charlotte wandered through the garden, lost in thought, trying to

figure out her next move. That was when she noticed a small section of the vine-covered fence had been pulled

back.

A tiny head poked through the gap. It was a little girl, her delicate face full of cautious curiosity. Her wide eyes

around before landing on Charlotte, and then they lit up.

“Ms. Lottic!” Mabel was so excited that she lost her balance and fell onto the grass.

Charlotte spun around at the sound, her eyes widening in shock. when she realized who it was. Without thinking,

she rushed over. “Mabel, how did you get in here?” she asked, quickly pulling Mabel to her feet.

Mabel beamed at her. “I tried to cthrough the front, but the mean bodyguard wouldn't letin. He's so

annoying. So | walked around and found this spot where | could squeeze through.”

Charlotte glanced at the gap in the fence. It was small-just enough for a child to slip through. There was no way

she could fit.

“Hey!” A sharp voice cfrom outside the fence.

Mabel flinched and quickly shoved a phone into Charlotte's hand. She scrambled back through the gap just as

fast. “Ms. Lottie, | brought you a phone. Call my mom, okay? She's really worried about you.”

Before Charlotte could say anything, Mabel had already slipped out of sight, her legs carrying her away in a

flash.

Charlotte slipped the phone into her pocket. A bodyguard. appeared on the other side of the fence. “Mrs.

Harrison, what are you doing out here?”

Charlotte's face turned cold. “None of your business.” With that, she turned and walked away.

The bodyguard stood there, puzzled. He glanced around and thought, “Haven't | just seen a kid? Where did she

go?”

The villa was surrounded by a small grove of trees. Mabel, being tiny, darted through the undergrowth easily. The

dimming light helped her blend in, and she crouched behind a patch of tall grass, holding her breath. The

bodyguard eventually gave up and walked off to continue his patrol.

Mabel finally exhaled, patted her chest in relief, and slipped

away.

On the other side of the grove, Evie was hiding behind a decorative rock. When she saw Mabel, she ran over and

grabbed her hand. “Did you give her the phone?”

“Mission accomplished,” Mabel said, her big eyes sparkling with pride.

“Good job,” Evie smiled and handed her a lollipop. Then she took her hand and led her out of the neighborhood

and into a waiting car.

Pete was in the driver's seat. He glanced back as they got in. “So, how did it go?”

Mabel climbed into the back, her expression serious. “I saw Ms. Lottic. She's really unhappy. She doesn’t smile

anymore.”
