Chapter 436 Avoiding the Truth
Everyone watched this scene. Their various thoughts tangled together, but none of them showed on their faces.
Barrett turned to Diana, returning to his cheerful demeanor, and asked, “Diana, today’s our big day. How about
we treat everyone to a meal?”
Diana shook her head. “Lottie’s wound can’t handle eating anything messy. We'll wait until she’s recovered.”
He nodded. “Okay, we'll do whatever you say.”

Charlotte paused for a moment, then said, “You'll definitely treat us to a meal, but there’s no rush. You two
should go for a candlelit dinner or something. I'm fine. Don’t waste all your time
on me.”
Barrett immediately looked at Diana with longing eyes.
Diana furrowed her brows for a second. She was about to refuse, but when she saw Charlotte shake her head
slightly, she swallowed her words of rejection.
She nodded. “Alright, then, you rest. If you need anything, just call me.”
“Alright.”
Charlotte smiled faintly.

Charlotte couldn't help but sigh. “If you really want to thank me, stop callinglike that. Arthur and | are
divorced.”
But he grinned mischievously. “Until you get your divorce certificate, you're still Mrs. Harrison. No one can

She was left with no words.
Later, Diana and Barrett left together.
Gideon placed his hands behind his back, smiling lightly. “It’s nice. Those who are married get married, and
those who are divorced get divorced. | should get to work now.”
Arthur fell silent.
His expression darkened.
But Gideon was quick to leave, giving him no opportunity to respond.
The ward soon becquiet.
Charlotte, feeling exhausted, slowly laid down. The effects of the anesthetic had worn off, and now, any slight
movement of her injury brought sharp pain.
Arthur stepped forward to support her, but she shook her head. “No need.”
His expression froze for a moment, and his thin lips pressed into a straight line. Still, he didn’t let go and gently
helped her lie down on the bed.

Charlotte nodded. “She knows the most about what happened five years ago.
Arthur's eyes flickered with a deep sense of desolation, but he hid his emotions well and said, “Charlotte, I'm
sorry for these past five years.”
She remained calm, her voice even and composed. “I don’t care anymore.”
Whether he apologized or whether he still had feelings for her, she no longer cared.
All she wanted was to live her own peaceful life, away from conflicts that didn’t belong to her.
Arthur felt a lump in his throat, his breath stifled, his heart heavy with pain.
What he feared the most was her indifferent attitude.

It left him at a loss, unable to figure out how to approach her, where to even start.
“There's one more thing you should prepare yourself for.” He paused for a moment before speaking again. “I
have a theory about who drugged you five years ago and how you ended up in my room. Whoever stood to gain
the most from that incident is the one who has the greatest suspicion.

She couldn't bear to think too deeply about it. In the quiet of the night, when insomnia made her restless, she
always wondered, “How could it be?”
But all the events, all the evidence, pointed straight to him.
The one she had always trusted, the one she had considered the closest to her.
Arthur gazed at her, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. He let out a soft sigh, then stood up. “If you need
anything, contact
me.”
Charlotte didn’t respond. She closed her eyes, shielding the emotions stirring within her heart.
